Generation No. 5

JOHN MERRELL (GARRETT, BENJAMINE WISEMAN MERRILL, ANDREW, CAPTAIN BENJAMIN MERRILL & JEMIMA SMITH) was born 1835 in Giles County , Tennessee, and died 1863 in Civil War.  He married MARGARET ROSE ANDERSON 08 Mar 1853 in Tennessee.  She was born 08 Mar 1835 in Lincoln County, Tennessee.

Notes for JOHN MERRELL:

Died in service to the Confederacy during War Between the States. John Merrell was killed in the War Between the States on Sept. 19, 1863 during the first day of Battle of Chickamauga, Georgia.  John's body was taken by train to Marietta, GA. and buried in the Marietta Confederate Cemetery.  Each grave has a marker but no names because the original wooden markers were destroyed in a fire years ago.  His name is in the book, "Confederate Veterans Interred in the Confederate Cemetery Marietta,Georgia." on page 31.

MARY ELIZABETH MERRELL (JOHN) was born 29 May 1855.  She married LEE ROY PHILLIPS 25 Feb 1874.
