MERRILL/MERRELL STATEN ISLAND DNA PROJECT

Gary Merrill has informed me that you had requested contact and have

interest in other Merrill/Merrell families who are DNA linked to the

Staten Island grouping. Jerry Merrill is my brother, has a 26 marker

test identical, as expected, to mine. I am presently expanding my

markers to 43 with results due in about a week.

My confirmed paper trail to Merrill family begins with only four

generations before mine with Jesse Merrill who was born, "near Harper's Ferry", then Virginia, now West Virginia, 3 August 1788, federal census are in conflict with birthplace listed on separate cs. as Maryland and Virginia. Married Nancy Hemphill 1811 in WA County, PA., died at a ripe old age 27 January 1882 in Buchanan Co., Iowa where he and Nancy are buried in the Hickory Grove Cemetery, Winthrop. Iowa. They had moved from Washington County Pawnee he ran a distillery to Belmont county, Ohio. where he farmed and was Justice of the Peace. The family was also in Jefferson Co., Ohio and in Harrison Co., Ohio. Jesse and Nancy followed their eldest son, John to Buchanan county Iowa where their other children had migrated, and where they died.

Jesse and Nancy Hemphill Merrill children were John b. PA. 1812; Richard b.1814 PA.; Ruth b 1815 PA. m. John Slemmons; Thomas b1818 OH.; Mary Hemphill M. b. 1820 OH. m. Samuel Braden; David b. 1824 OH.; Jesse Hemphill M. b 1829 OH,; Betty b. abt 1830 OH.; Joseph b 1833 OH..

The family were Presbyterian Church followers and were active in the

communities where they lived. I believe my records are fairly complete

from Jesse Merrill Sr. 1788-1882 to the present. My website which I have

not updated recently is

helping connection of my Jesse Merrill to The Merrills of Staten Island

and hence to Warwickshire. Will supply any and all of my information

upon request.

I am retired high school principal, live in Chewelah, WA., and have been
